David Schaffner.jpgHe will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away. Revelation 21:4

The Lord reminds us in this verse from Revelation that there is hope for our future because he has overcome death. This is great comfort to the staff and guests of Turlock Gospel Mission as we mourn the loss of our dear friend Dave Schaffner.

Dave was a very kind man, who had a smile and a warm word for everyone he met. Dave struggled with homelessness and with unemployment but he was working hard on moving forward and had been approved for Social Security early due to some health issues he was struggling with.

Dave was extremely trustworthy, he was thought of very highly both by the staff at TGM, as well as the other men and women experiencing homelessness in our community. Additionally, he was very giving and helpful; it is said that he would go out of his way to help anyone he could.

Dave was one of those rare individuals who seem to be universally well thought of, he was a quiet, thoughtful man with a caring personality and a giving, generous spirit. He will be greatly missed and we are so thankful for the opportunity to have known him.

Dave reminded each of us that no matter how difficult life can be God has given us the ability to give and care for others.

Go with God Dave!
