How did you become homeless?

“The home we were renting was bought so we stayed at a hotel for a while, then lived with my mom. Then there were family issues with my mom.”

Where was the first place you went after becoming homeless?

“The Gospel Mission.”

What are some of the things you worry about as a mother being homeless?

“I worry about my son. I worry about predators while I’m recycling or men following me. I also worry about hygiene and trying to stay clean.”

How has Turlock Gospel Mission helped you?

“By giving my family shelter, getting the opportunity to learn lots of skills such as clerical work. I just applied for a job offer but I’m still waiting to see if it goes through.”

Where would you like to see yourself in a year from now?

“I would like to see my place to live, a home. I would like to have a job.”

How important is the Day Center to your family?

“Very, I can be somewhere safe. We can hang out as a family, we can receive counseling. It feels like home here and I know all the guests well.”

Since this interview Rachel and her family have found a place to live.  Please continue to pray for this family.
